Dream Dictionary Analysis

Dream analysis is breaking apart the details of a dream and then interpreting them. A dream is defined as the downloading of sub conscious thought into semi-conscious thought. Dreams occur during the stage of sleep referred to as rapid eye movement. Usually, dreams are forgotten upon waking so it is crucial if an individual wishes to analyze their dream they record their thought as soon as they wake up. It is important to note dream analysis is dependent on the experiences of the dreamer. The events of their dream pertain to how their subconscious relates to influences in their waking life.

Once a dream has been recorded the individual must break down each component of their dream. The key is to take a systematic approach to dream analysis. Record the dream, list the most disturbing or most pleasurable parts of the dream, and then place a sequence of events if possible. Always remember to record the overall impression or mood of the dream. Was the dreamer frightened, confused, elated?

Dreams are not always told as a story. Fragments of details can be attached to other details that make no obvious sense to the dreamer. For example, the individual dreams that the family cat is sitting at the head of the table eating prime rib. A dream analysis would be that the dreamer sub consciously thinks the family cat has too much position in the family.

The literal interpretation of the cat eating Sunday dinner, before the analysis of the dream, would appear senseless and silly. It is the experiences in the waking life that the dreamer felt about the family cat that causes the significance of the dream.

In order to analyze a dream, familiarity with dream symbols is needed. The dreamer must have at least a working knowledge of dream symbols to guide them in their personal dream analysis. There are thousands of sources available for dream analysis. The underlying meaning of each symbol should not be used as a concrete analysis of the dream. Each dream symbol meaning is unique to the individual and their waking life experiences.

Symbols are divided into vague categories such as animal, plant, esoteric images, or situations. The categories should be used as a guide to direct the dream analysis to the specifics of the dream. For example, if an individual dreamed they were falling (a very common dream) one of two scenarios could occur. The connotation of falling in a dream is to lose control or to surrender. These are two extremely different situations. If the individual were under too much stress in their waking life then the dream analysis would reveal they felt they were losing control over their life.

If an individual were experiencing decisions that in their waking life are concluded then the dream analysis of the falling sensation would represent surrender to the outcome. The symbols are the same; it is the dream analysis that creates the significance of the symbol for the individual.

Dream analysis allows the subconscious mind to communicate with the conscious mind for the benefit of the dreamer. They need only to tap into their dream analysis.
