Fortune telling is found across all human cultures and histories. Human beings have a need to predict future events by mystical means. Ancient civilizations read fortunes by the entrails of animals, the phases of the moon and human sacrifices. More popular techniques are Tarot, face reading, palm reading, horoscope, I Ching, Psychic reading, reading tealeaves and Runes.
Fortune telling by Tarot involves the use of a deck of special cards. The deck of 52 cards is divided between major and minor arcana. Numerology of the cards is significant as well as the suits, wands, cups, swords and pentacles. The cards are spread in a special sequence to predict the future.
Fortune by face reading is a technique that deciphers an individual’s personality by the features of their face. The way and individuals lines, nose, eyes, chin, lips, ears and forehead determine are detailed features interpreted for the future of the individual.
Fortune telling by horoscope is done by dividing twelve zodiac signs by an individual’s birth. The date, place and time determine the pre ordained future of an individual. Free will is present, but their birth chart restricts the individual’s future. An individual may consult their daily, monthly and yearly horoscope for guidance into the future.
I Ching is a fortune telling technique that uses yarrow stick, three coins or painted sticks. The result is to arrive at a six-layered hexagram that is then interpreted from the book of changes. I Ching focuses on altering an individual’s course of life in the present in order to maintain the best possible balance for the future.
A psychic reading foretells the future by the use of psychic. This person has a gift to read a person’s character through messages received from the spiritual realm. Sometimes a psychic refers to a deck of tarot cards for clarification, a deck of regular playing cards or their spirit guide if they have one. A psychic reading is a detailed account of events in store for the person in the near future usually three to six month.
Tealeaf readings are a technique of fortune telling. An individual is asking to drink a cup of tea while concentrating on what they want answered. The psychic will turn the teacup over and let the tea leave adhere to the sides of the teacup. The placement of the tealeaves against the cup is then read.
Runes are and ancient means to tell the future. Runes are symbols scribed on a stone. They are placed in a cloth sack, shaken, and then turned onto the table/ground. The placement of the runes foretells the future. Runes were used on personal property, clothing and homes to protect the home from future invasions.
These examples are only a minute list of the vast techniques for fortune telling through millennia. Fortune telling will not predict the lottery numbers or the horse that will win the race, but it will give the faithful guidance and comfort to face their future.
